Our
Vision
The Essential Satchel
is built upon the vision that every homeless person in the community will
receive a care bag and a list of resources where they can seek help and
improve their current situation. All satchel recipients will hear and
learn that there is a mighty God who loves them and has a plan for their
life.
Through monetary and in kind donations, this nonprofit organization will
purchase and collect the age-, gender-, and season-specific necessities
to fill each satchel. Volunteers will distribute the satchels to local
shelters, churches, and areas where the homeless community gathers. Before
bag distribution at local facilities, a speaker – a local pastor,
a community leader, a previously homeless person with a success testimony
– will address the group receiving the bags.
The Essential Satchel’s
goal is to distribute bags in spring and fall, with the season dictating
some of the contents of the bag. In the fall, for example, all bags will
include gloves, blankets and knit caps for the colder months, and children’s
bags will contain school supplies as well. In any season, all bags include
a small Bible, a toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, deodorant, socks, a
comb, shampoo, other necessities, and literature on local programs offering
guidance and assistance.
Declaration
of Faith
- We believe in
the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
- We believe in
one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son,
and the Holy Spirit.
- We believe that
Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the
Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified,
buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is
today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
